Polarizing Unified Theory with his vision and musical voice, Brad Smith gives an energy to every moment he creates. From a traditional musical background ranging from Motown to the Beatles, Brad pulls the ethereal layers of the Unified sound back into a groove, filling in behind the beat with bass lines that arrive on time. June 1998 saw Brad in Seattle completing and promoting his new album ''Abandoned Jalopy'' when he received a phone call from an excited Christopher Thorn. Christopher had just witnessed Celia Green's talented lead singer Chris Shinn perform at an L.A. night spot. Just over a week later, Brad, Christopher and Chris met in Seattle, along with drummer Dave Krusen, in a 48 hour session which saw the writing, performing and recording of two complete songs, Cessna and Passive. From these very first sessions, Brad felt the resonance of a right path taken, of a power given and a valuable connection established. Brad's strong presence both on stage and on the album reflect the nature of his prescence: a unity of opposites, of freedom and constraint, of education and experimentation. This same presence unifies the many-faceted musician and songwriter seemlessly and powerfully into the Unified Theory sound and exemplifies the true balanced nature of what it means to be an artist.
