Police Report Says Slater Used Drugs, Alcohol

Actor Christian Slater beat his girlfriend in the face with his fists, bit a man who tried to stop him, attempted to wrest a loaded gun away from a law officer--and later indicated to authorities that he was under the influence of heroin and cocaine, according to police.

Slater, 27, is free on $50,000 bail today after being booked Monday in Los Angeles on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The police report on the Untamed Heart star's run-in with the law paints a picture of a man so out of control that only a choke hold--causing Slater to pass out--could subdue him.

The incidents occurred early Monday at an all-night party in a high-rise apartment in Westwood, California. Fellow party-goers witnessed Slater on top of his girlfriend, beating her with his fists, according to the police report. When the host of the gathering attempted to intervene, Slater grabbed the man "around the waist and bit him" in the rib cage, the report says.

Police responding to the scene found Slater "swinging his arms and yelling incoherently," the report continues. He then allegedly knocked down an officer who tried to corral him, and made a grab for his weapon. That officer applied a choke hold to Slater, who subsequently lost consciousness for several seconds, the report says. Leg restraints were also used.

Slater was later asked by police that night if he had taken any drugs. "Yeah, H," was the actor's response, according to the report. When asked if that drug was heroin, "Yes," came the response again, according to the report. Slater also reportedly told officers he had taken cocaine.

But according to the report, officials believe at the time of the incident he was under the influence not of heroin and cocaine but of cocaine and alcohol: A Breathalyzer test showed the actor testing at three times above the legal limit in California, and that, based on further inquiry, police believe Slater had done two lines of cocaine.

Slater's publicist had no comment Tuesday on the police account of the arrest.

The incident is the latest in a string of Slater run-ins with the law. In 1989, he was convicted of drunken driving after leading police on a high-speed chase. In 1994, he was detained by security guards at New York's JFK Airport after trying to enter the terminal while packing a 9mm pistol.
